Blog Writers Subconsciously Turned Into a Community

Blog Writers Subconsciously Turned Into a Community

If I envisioned my group for the blog project as a “community” of writers then my community brought various things to the storytelling project. We all are from different places, had different writing styles, and different visions on how to end the story but as a group created one ending to the storytelling blog project. We had to combine all of our ideas to create one central idea for the ending of the story. The way I wanted to end might not necessarily been the way another member of my “community” wanted to end. It took the group a little while to create one page because one it was a bit difficult to think of ways to end it and two we all needed to think of ways that appealed to everyone. Not everyone wanted a happy ending to the story; some wanted a comedic end, some wanted a sad ending but we worked to get the job done. One thing we brought to the storytelling project was our various, different backgrounds. For example, as we were writing it some of the members referenced to a movie as a reference to how we should end it and nobody had seen that movie besides them. It took some explaining on their behalf for the rest of the group to understand the direction the member wanted to take the story due to not seeing the movie. Although it took some explaining, adding that spin on the story made our project quit interesting and in my opinion, better. Another thing my group had that affected the storytelling project was our different writing styles. We as individuals all had our own way of writing when we met to write the project. A member in my group may not have exactly wrote a sentence the same way another member wrote it and that’s what makes the story interesting. The fact that we all combined our ways of storytelling into one made the story more complex and arguably more interesting than if it had been an individual project.

If I wrote this blog project by myself then the story would have ended way differently than it did with my group. I don’t think that I personally would have thought of the same ending we did as a group. I tend to write stories with happy endings and my group ended the story tragically. Also I would not have added the part relating to movie because I have never seen the movie to be able to use it. The story may or may not have been as good if one person would have just wrote it because it would have been solely from one person’s point of view.  I also would not been able to add the hyperlinks with the help of the other members who knew how to do it themselves. In addition the story would have been less enjoyable to write if I had written it by myself.

  1. I definitely agree with what you had to say! Working with a group instead of an individual allowed more twists in the storyline. My group and I had different ideas of where we wanted to take the story, but we were able to come up with a way that incorporated both of our ideas. If just one of us had written it, it probably would not have been as interesting. I also noticed right away that my writing style was different than my groups. At first I didn’t know how it would work out, but I think overall it benefited the story.

  2. I really like how you touched on the similarities of our writing groups and a community. I agree with your points and had never thought about it from that point of view. Personally, I thought it was very helpful and interesting, to have groups with different types of people. It allowed for easy brainstorming and great depth in the story. I agree with what you said about how the incorporation of each person’s personal type of storytelling being combined made the story more interesting. I also agree that if we were to write it by ourselves versus with a group, we all would have very different pages.

  3. Reading about your experience with writing as a group was very interesting to me! I enjoy hearing how this project went for other groups. My group worked very well together, and it seems like yours did too. I do not really know if my writing style differed from the other members of my group because I was the one typing the story up and they fed me ideas and we collaborated on how to word everything. I believe it was a very efficient way to write our page. Did you all take turns writing the story or did one person type as well?

  4. i enjoyed the storytelling project and watching our class' story evolve and come together. I think you brought up an interesting point about how our life and writing backgrounds differ and how they can change the dynamic of each page of the story. I also got a laugh out of you talking about the movie reference within the story. I'm not sure if the first group meant to include the reference, but it was funny to see how each group continued to build upon it with each page of the story. I know that my group had a good laugh and enjoyed looking for a new way to implement the reference into our page. In all, I think that the project did connect the class in an interesting way.

  5. I have to agree with your argument because having a community of writers is very helpful when creating a story. Like you said each person’s background and writing style are all equally important. It is better to see what the group overall has to say instead of just one person writing it. It also gives perspectives you might have not noticed when writing about a topic. If I were doing the digital story myself it would not have been as good either because my group members were thinking outside of the box and each of them actually had better ideas than me. Community is key when writing a story.

  6. I agree with you that writing as a group is more fun than writing by yourself because you can test your ideas out with a smaller audience before publishing it. Maybe I would just rather write with people who I could bounce ideas off of rather than be in a group though. This is because some of my favorite ideas that I had for the story didn’t make it into our final draft because the rest of the group didn’t particularly like the ideas or felt like they were too vulgar. However, I still enjoyed having people there to write with then go completely solo.
